Book Recommendations

An evolving list of Lela's favorite reads.

Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari

What makes us human? Why do we dominate the food chain? What secrets about our species lie within the deep crevices of our own history? Harari’s clear, accessible answers to these questions will blow your mind. You won’t think about the world or humanity in the same way once you finish this book. I recommend it more than any other book I’ve read.

Women Who Run With the Wolves by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés

Estes writes a beautiful collection of stories that each hold secrets about the feminine psyche. This book combines history, folklore, fiction and psychology. This is the feminist answer to Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey. Estes understands the human necessity for storytelling, and she honors it in her writing.
